ALBANY, N.Y. --The three big bills of this session were taken up Friday night in the NYS Senate, two of them passing with ease.
"This is about jobs, jobs, jobs," says Senator John Bonacic, the sponsor of the Upstate NY Gaming Economic Development Act.
Bonacic says the bill is essential to the state.
"These resort destinations are game changers," he says. "They have a ripple effect on everything else that happens in that county, in that region and in the surrounding counties."
Just after 10 o'clock Friday evening, the Senate passed the bill 48-11, which will bring four casinos to upstate NY. But not everything passed with ease.
Dozens of women in the Senate gallery chanted "we want 10!", referring to the 10th leg of the Women's Equality Act, involving a woman's right to choose and abortion.
Senate Majority Coalition Leader Jeff Klein brought a hostile ammendment to the floor Friday afternoon, but it was ruled germane.
The Assembly does have the option of coming back into session in the coming days, weeks or months to re-take up the bill in separate parts, as opposed to the one entity that was voted on Thursday.
