Ravena man charged with criminal sex act, witness intimidation

COEYMANS, N.Y. - The Coeymans Police Department has arrested a Ravena man for alleged criminal sex act and witness intimidation.

Police say 20-year-old John Deyo forced a 14-year-old female to perform sex acts on him while threatening her with a knife. The alleged incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in Mosher Park in Ravena, a place that Police Chief Gregory Darlington says is a problem area.

Darlington says the victim came to the station just hours after the incident.

During the investigation, police also learned Deyo allegedly asked a 15-year-old to threaten a witness, who was in the area at the time of the crime, with the same knife if he said anything to police. Deyo then allegedly threatened the same witness with a knife himself, as well.

Deyo was charged with Criminal Sex Act 1st-degree, Intimidation of Witness 3rd-degree, both felonies, two counts of Menacing 2nd-degree and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both misdemeanors. He has been remanded to the Albany Correctional Facility without bail.
