QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - New York State Police have arrested a Chestertown man for alleged sexual contact with a 16-year-old victim.
Police say 40-year-old William Smith, of 119 Olmsteadville Rd., was arrested Thursday after a complaint was received that he had sexual contact with the victim. When law enforcement went to question Smith regarding the allegations, he allegedly barricaded himself in his residence and advised that he was armed with a shotgun.
After nearly five hours of negotiations with State Police, Smith surrendered without incident and was taken into custody and no weapons were found to be in his possession.
He has been charged with Sexual Abuse 1st-degree, a felony, and
Endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor and remanded to the Warren County Jail without bail.
