Schodack man pleads guilty to death of ex-girlfriend

TROY, N.Y. - A Rensselaer County man pleaded guilty Thursday to killing his ex-girlfriend in her Schodack home last year.

The Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally says 37-year-old Jason Guynup pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Nikki Hart. McNally claims Guynup forced his way into the Bri Lan Avenue home they shared during the early morning hours on December 16, 2012 and stabbed her multiple times while she was sleeping.

Police say Guynup fled the scene after the attack and was taken into custody after his vehicle was involved in a property damage accident and a foot pursuit on State Route 9J.

Just days before the alleged murder, Guynup had been issued an order to stay away from Hart and their two children.

His sentencing is scheduled for later this month.
