Cops break up bird fighting ring in Hudson Valley

PLATTEKILL, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they've seized 76 birds and arrested seven men involved with a Hudson Valley training camp for bird fighting.
Ulster County sheriff's deputies tell local media outlets that officers responded Wednesday afternoon to a report of chicken fighting at a location in the town of Plattekill.
Seven men ran into the woods as police arrived. They were caught and charged with promoting animal fighting. Deputies say five are from the Bronx, one is from Wallkill and one is from Port St. Lucie, Fla. All seven were sent to the county jail.
Police say the bird fighting ring in Plattekill was a training camp for bird fighting in New York City.
