All 15 Bennington Rural Fire Department volunteers reinstated after suspension

BENNINGTON, Vt. -- All 15 firefighters suspended from the Bennington Rural Fire Department for allegedly setting a camper on fire without proper permits have been reinstated.

The decision came during a meeting Tuesday night, despite an ongoing investigation by the Vermont DEC prompted by complaints.

The camper was set on fire at Mudder's Day on May 12th, with several firefighters on standby as the camper goes up in flames, just moments later a car driving through it, debris flying as the firefighters rushed to put out the flames and check on the driver.

Bennington Town Manager Stuart Hurd said the event was held on private property and that the host had proper permits for the event -- but not to burn the trailer.
