Bomb scare at Columbia Co. courthouse unfounded

CLAVERACK, N.Y. - State Police in Claverack say a bomb scare at the Columbia County Courthouse was unfounded Wednesday morning.

Police say they received a call around 9 a.m. stating "there was a bomb in the dumpster outside" the family courthouse, located on State Route 23B in Claverack. The building was evacuated and the road briefly shut down as a precaution.

State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office responded with the help of bomb-sniffing dogs and found nothing.

Police wrapped up investigation by 10:30 a.m. and people were let back into building shortly thereafter.

The investigation is ongoing and police say they are "confident there will be an arrest soon."
