CATSKILL, N.Y. - New York State Police say an Athens pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Cauterskill Road in the Town of Catskill Wednesday morning.

Police say around 7:30 a.m., 69-year-old Patricia Petrianna and 65-year-old Linda Valenchis, both of McGovern Lane in Athens, were walking on the shoulder of the northbound lane when a vehicle operated by 36-year-old Frank Savio, of Cornwallville, was traveling northbound when the vehicle left the roadway, drove off the shoulder, and struck both women.

Petrianna was pronounced dead at the scene. Valenchis was transported to Albany Medical Center with head and arm injuries.

The investigation has not revealed any indication of alcohol or drug usage on the part of Savio, however the investigation is continuing as to why his vehicle drifted off the roadway.
