Averill Park teacher let go pending criminal investigation

AVERILL PARK, N.Y. - The Averill Park Central School District Superintendent James Hoffman said a high school teacher was terminated for his conduct outside the school. Now State Police say a criminal investigation is underway.

State Police tell the NEWS CENTER a pending criminal investigation began last week involving the conduct of Doug Lenseth, 26, of Sand Lake, a math teacher in the high school who has also worked as a substitute teacher for the district.

State Police only said the investigation surrounded his online activity. They would not confirm what specific conduct is under investigation or what charges could be pending.

In a statement on the district website Monday, Superintendent Hoffman stated, "To our knowledge, at no time were district students involved, were any students in any danger, and no actions took place on school grounds or using district facilities or equipment."

He went on to say, "Our purpose in posting this is to answer rumors that are spreading regarding this situation. If you have any information that would be related to this situation, we encourage you to contact the New York State Police, at 732-4644. Thank you."
