LATHAM, N.Y. - Hoffman's Playland is seeing an abundance of support on social media after rumors surfaced that this summer may be their last.
A Facebook page titled "Save Hoffman's Playland" was started Thursday and by Friday morning already has nearly 12,000 fans, after rumors that the local family-run business will be closing down for good.
But the owner of Hoffman's Playland, David Hoffman, tells the NEWS CENTER Friday that there are no concrete plans of selling the family-friendly park and no offers on the table.
"It's the only job I've had in my entire life," Hoffman said.
Hoffman says he does want to retire at some point, but they have no plans to sell the park any time in the foreseeable future.
"We sort of announced our retirement
without really having a set plan on how to implement that. So for the short
term we're going to be business as usual," he said.
A message posted to the Facebook wall from the page states "The purpose of this page was to raise awareness to the fact that Hoffman's Playland may be sold and to have a place where people could share their thoughts and memories."
The page was started after a report in the Business Review stated summer 2013 may be the last summer for the Route 9, Latham family attraction. According to the Business Review, owners David and Ruth Hoffman are "actively pursuing offers for the land."
The park has been open since the 1950's.
