ROUND LAKE, N.Y. – Not even a full 24 hours after the entire Round Lake Library Board of Trustees resigned Tuesday night after receiving backlash for the firing of a long-time librarian, her job has been reinstated.
Residents of the village have been pleading for Theresa Marchione to be reinstated after she was fired for closing early when there was a tornado threat in May.
The special meeting called Wednesday was in response to the previous night's mass resignation. In the first few minutes, a new eight-person interim board of trustees was appointed by the Women's Round Lake Improvement Society and their first order of business was to reinstate Theresa Marchione.
Immediately, Marchione's supporters who packed into the village hall erupted in applause.
Library Director Carol Sheffer handed in her resignation on Wednesday, stepping down from her position. Upon hearing that, even more applause came from the crowd that publicly expressed their outrage this past week over Marchione's firing.
Bill Ryan, who was selected to be on the new board said their first priority was to reinstate Marchione their next step is to find a new library director.
