ALBANY, N.Y. – New York State Senator Tony Avella will join members of the national not-for-profit Mercy For Animals Wednesday to release the results of an undercover investigation into a New York foie gras production facility and to introduce a bill he plans to propose in relation to the results.
The organization, which is dedicated to advocating against cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices, is expected to provide evidence that ducks and ducklings in the facility had been violently force fed, improperly stunned, shackled and slaughtered while fully conscious. Vandhana Bala, the director of legal advocacy for California-based not-for-profit, is set to present video evidencing the claims and answer questions alongside Avella.
Foie gras is made from the enlarged liver of ducks and geese that have been force fed and fattened.
The press conference will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Legislative Office Building at the Empire State Plaza.
