BURNT HLLS, N.Y. – The parents of 17-month-old Kennedy Decker face a long, hard road after their daughter was diagnosed with potentially-fatal liver cancer in March. To help support the medical costs they will face in their attempt to save her life, SAGE Computer Associates will be holding a Bowl-a-Thon from 1 – 4 Sunday afternoon at the Burnt Hills Lanes.
Nate and Lauren Decker found out on March 24 that their daughter, Kennedy Ann Decker, or ‘Dee Dee' as her older brother Marin calls her, had Stage 4 Hepatoblastoma, a cancer that involves a tumor growing in the liver. For Kennedy, the tumor had already taken up her entire abdomen and had spread to her lungs.
Kennedy has already undergone her first chemotherapy treatment in the hope of shrinking the tumor to a size able to be removed. If the tumor cannot be removed safely, Kennedy will need a liver transplant. Once the surgery is completed and she has healed, Kennedy will continue chemotherapy to remove any remaining cancer cells.
Understanding the expense such medical treatment requires, SAGE Computer Associates has chosen to hold the fundraiser to help support their employee, Kennedy's mother Lauren.
