Woman arrested for scheme to defraud

Posted:

MAYFIELD, NY - On June 7, the State Police Mayfield barracks arrested Maureen R. Eberle, 51, of Broadalbin, NY, for Scheme to Defraud 1st, Grand Larceny 4th, and Issuing a Bad Check following a several week long investigation.

Troopers received an initial complaint on May 15 from the Adirondack Harley Davidson shop on State Rte. 29 in the Town of Mayfield, where two checks were written for a total of $1,692.73 but returned for insufficient funds.

While that was being investigated, the management from Harley Davidson re-contacted SP Mayfield several days later and advised that Eberle had returned to the store and made payment for those checks using a Capital One credit card, but that card had later been declined. When Troopers looked into the ownership of the card it was discovered that it was opened fraudulently under the name of a male subject that Eberle was working for as a home health aide.

This lead to an extensive investigation where Troopers were able to find additional bad checks written by Eberle in the Mayfield patrol area that totaled approximately $1,478.95, and again she was identified as paying them off using the same fraudulent credit card.

Eberle is due in the Town of Mayfield Court on June 18, 2013 to answer to the charges.
