SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Police have arrested the man they say struck and killed a pedestrian while she was crossing the road at Ballston Avenue and Hamilton Street in Saratoga Springs Friday.
The 50-year–old victim suffered serious head and chest trauma and was taken to Saratoga Hospital then transferred to Albany Medical Center where she later died according to Saratoga Springs police.
Lieutenant John Catone with the Saratoga Springs Police tells the NEWS CENTER that the victim was crossing Ballston Avenue, following the rules of the road and in the crosswalk, when a driver making a right turn onto Ballston Avenue struck her.
The driver, Paul Nicholson II, 28, of Marion Avenue in Saratoga Springs, has been charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, and Driving While Intoxicated. Further charges are possible as the investigation continues.
"It's a very busy intersection, you know. A lot of people do go through the red lights and it's something that they're going to have to deal with," said James Wright who lives nearby.
The victim has not yet been identified pending family notification.
