Schenectady housing complex fighting bed bugs

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A bed bug issue has some folks in Schenectady finding new places to sleep as they wait for their apartments to be treated.

Management from Summit Towers, a housing complex on Albany Street, tells the NEWS CENTER they've had an exterminator working to get rid of bed bugs since April, but the bugs are still a problem.

Reporter Christine O'Donnell spoke to Peter Healey, a 73-year-old retiree who says he's been forced to sleep on the floor because of this.

"The exterminators had to come in twice to my room, I lost my bed, mattress, box spring, a couch, a lot of clothes, books, they're very, very hard to get rid of," said Healey.

Management tells the NEWS CENTER they're working to fix the problem daily, but say the issue is a two-way street.
