WATERVLIET, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they've launched an investigation after an Albany-area man's dog was fatally dragged while tied to a trooper's patrol car following a traffic stop.
James Terry tells the Times Union of Albany that he was pulled over at a state police roadblock Saturday in Watervliet. While being arrested for having a suspended license, he asked troopers to let his two Siberian huskies out of his pickup truck so they wouldn't overheat.
A trooper tied the dogs to the bumper of his patrol car. Officials say he thought someone else had unhooked the dogs when he later sped off to answer another call, dragging the two dogs at least 10 feet.
One of the dogs was injured and had to be euthanized two days later. The other survived.
