PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A 23-year-old Pittsfield man has been sentenced to serve 18 months in jail for shooting at a man who had stuck his head out of his front door after hearing gunfire.
Adam Pettijohn was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges including illegal possession of a firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Prosecutors say Pettijohn fired five times at a city resident in October 2011 who had opened his front door after hearing shots fired and asked Pettijohn what was going on. The bullets struck the apartment building, but no one was hurt.
The Berkshire Eagle reports that the defense lawyer said Pettijohn is "intelligent" and "respectful" and took on a lot of responsibility for his family as a young man without a father figure.
