Ryan Mott produces NEWS CENTER on 10 ABC at 11.  The producer is the hub of the newscast, working with everyone from the assignment editors to the reporters, anchors and directors to select which stories make it into the newscast.  They also build the rundown which determines the order in which the stories will air. That's called "stacking the show".  In addition, they write and edit many stories.

But that's only part of it. Producers have to constantly adjust to breaking news and how stories change out in the field. It also requires a great deal of detail to make sure everything looks right when it airs.  Producers sit in the control room during the show to time it and work with the director to make sure the live shots are ready. They can communicate with the reporters and anchors through their earpieces.

Ryan joined the NEWS CENTER in 2010. As you can see, the producer has a lot of responsibilities. So, what does Ryan like most about his job?  "My favorite part of this job is the excitement… something new to cover every day and the hunt to have the information before the competition. I've found my training in martial arts has come in handy for a job like this, staying calm and keeping your resolve in the face of breaking news so the mind does not become clouded with chaos. Of course being able to smash a few bricks in half with my hand serves as both a confidence booster and a metaphor for crushing breaking news."

Yes, Ryan is proficient in martial arts. He has actually split a rock in two. We like having him around for many reasons!
