Here's Zak working on a news promo on the left, and playing Rock-paper-scissors with me on the right.
Zak works closely with the news producers to tease the day's most interesting stories with the goal of getting YOU to watch our newscasts. He also edits promos for our syndicated programming.
Zak actually started with FOX23 back in 2005 as a studio technician, doing everything from changing lights to running teleprompter. He then become a full time video editor and ran the audio board during the newscasts. After that, he became a news photographer and was cited for contributions to a story that won former Sports Director Rich Becker an Edward R. Murrow award.
As you can see, Zak has done just about everything behind the scenes, but when asked what he likes most, "Having the opportunity to be creative on a daily basis and collaborating with my very talented co-workers...oh, and the free coffee."
His sense of humor is much appreciated and further demonstrated by this quote he loves from Howard Beale in the movie Network, "Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, side-show freaks, lion tamers, and football players. We're in the boredom-killing business!"
Zak's talents go far beyond the station walls. Not only is he a top notch bowler, he is a competitive Rock-paper-scissors player, having won numerous matches around the Capital Region. I actually gave him a good run though one morning back when I was anchoring the FOX23 morning show and had him on as a guest to talk about "Really, there is organized competition for Rock-paper-scissors"!
