Family loses house to fire and now searches for family pet

JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. - A Johnstown family is searching for their dog Rosie who ran off after the home was struck by lightning last week.

Amy Havraneck's house burned last Wednesday after being struck by lightning.

"I looked to my right and saw flames and the smoke overtook us," she said.

She then grabbed her 20-month-old daughter and ran out of the house.  Her other three daughters were with family that night, but Rosie has not been seen since the fire.

"I'm hoping she didn't get struck by lightning," Havraneck said.

Rosie was a special gift for Havraneck's oldest daughters, from their father, who passed away.

"She was one of the last things he gave to them before he died unexpectedly," Havraneck said.

As the family continues to search, Havraneck said one positive after losing Rosie and their home is the community support they have received.

"People that we don't even know are asking how they can help. That is what keeps you strong as a family," she said.
