TROY, N.Y. – A Watervliet man was arrested by Troy Police Sunday after they say he vandalized an Uncle Sam statue.

At around 2:45 a.m., a Troy Police Patrol Sergeant saw several male subjects acting suspiciously in the area of an Uncle Sam statue on Broadway between Church Street and Third Street. As the Sergeant approached the group, the subjects fled on foot, leaving behind a statue which had been broken from its pedestal and the head broken off the body of the piece.

The officer pursued the suspects and caught one a short distance from the scene.

Michael J. Siler, 22, of 1946 Sixth Avenue in Watervliet was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief in the 2nd-degree.
