ALBANY, N.Y. -- Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk announced Monday the passage of legislation that will help to establish a farm-to-senior program to help promote the purchase of New York products by senior centers.
The bill would require the Department of Agriculture to get information regarding senior centers and other senior institutions that would be interested in buying locally sourced farm products and make it available to interested New York farmers and organizations.
"This measure will help all the family owned and small farms in Upstate New York that are so important to our local economy," Senator Tkaczyk said. "And this legislation has the added benefit of providing healthy, fresh, local produce to senior citizens."
The bill will now be sent to the Assembly.
