DALTON, Mass. -- Specialist Mitchell Daehling of Dalton, Mass. was killed earlier this week in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.

The flag outside Wahconah Regional High School was at half-staff Thursday in honor of the 24-year-old fallen local son of Dalton. Daehling graduated from the school in 2006.

He later attended Daniel Webster College in New Hampshire. Daehling was an army specialist serving in Afghanistan when he died in the line of duty.

There was a report of a roadside bombing of a U.S. Convoy which killed four American troops in Southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

William Joseph Gilbert and Mitchell Kirk Daehling, both specialists from Fort Bliss, and 29-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker, a Hesperia, Calif., resident based at Fort Stewart, were killed in the Tuesday attack, Fort Bliss officials said Friday.

A family member tells the NEWS CENTER his parents are on their way to Dover Air Force Base.
