Cohoes principal on leave after ammo purchase at school

Posted:

COHOES, N.Y. - The principal of Cohoes High School has been put on paid administrative leave after he was accused of buying 500 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition on school property.

A meeting will be held Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Cohoes Middle School to discuss Principal Joseph Rajczak's future at the school.

Police say they have completed their investigation into the sale, and his alleged purchase of ammunition in the parking lot of the school on May 1st does not violate any law therefore he will not face any charges.

Though there is nothing criminal about the alleged sale, Superintendent Robert Libby says the purchase of ammunition on school grounds is a violation of the school's Code of Conduct - which is what the Board of Education will be discussing.

Libby says there's no allegation that any gun was brought onto school property or that the safety of students or staff was ever compromised.

Police say it is up to the school to determine what options should be considered with the outcome of the investigation.
