ALBANY, N.Y. - Hundreds gathered in Albany on Wednesday night for the Albany County Democratic Committee meeting where they endorsed City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan for Mayor.
"I'm very honored to be the nominee of the party. This was not something I expected, even as of Saturday but this is very humbling and I'm very excited," said Sheehan.
Sheehan's endorsement comes one day after long standing Albany Mayor, Jerry Jennings, announced he wouldn't seek reelection.
"I have a lot of support," said Sheehan. "We can now look forward to the future of the city of Albany.
For the endorsement, Sheehan beat former city councilman Cory Ellis, who said not winning the endorsement isn't that big of a deal to him.
"I'm not discouraged. I'm a fighter," he said.
Also winning an endorsement Wednesday for a second term is Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin.
