Albany County Sheriff's Office investigating death of inmate


ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the death of an inmate at Albany County Correctional Facility.

Around 6:50 a.m. Saturday, 36-year-old inmate Demearle Gulledge of Pamelia N.Y. was found unresponsive in his cell. Correction officers began CPR, and Correction Facility medical staff responded, but he was pronounced dead about twenty minutes later.

An autopsy determined his cause of death to be asphyxia due to hanging.

He was incarcerated for Assault and Criminal Mischief charges out of Jefferson County and was being boarded in Albany County.

The investigation is ongoing.
