Lydia Kulbida has been named Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year 2013 after a ten-week fundraising campaign for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicating to funding blood cancer research.

She had between March 1st and May 6th to raise money and awareness for the cause. Every dollar she raised counted as one vote for her, and all the donations went towards not only LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

A.J. Bodden won Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man of the Year. Over $324,00 was raised between all the candidates, and it was a record breaking year. Lydia alone raised $73,000.

Since its founding in 1949, LLS has provided more than $750 million for research which has resulted in several significant discoveries, including chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants. One person is diagnosed with a blood cancer every four minutes in the U.S. Nearly 958,000 Americans are currently living with blood cancers, including Capital Region men, women and children.
