ALBANY, N.Y. - Albany County District Attorney David Soares says the man accused of abandoning three injured puppies on railroad tracks last fall was arraigned in court Friday morning.
31-year-old Anthony Walker, of Albany, was arraigned after a Grand Jury returned
an indictment of one count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, a felony, three counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring
Animals, Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, misdemeanors,
and three counts of Abandonment of Animals, misdemeanors.
The indictment alleges that between
September 7 and September 8, 2012 in the area of North Pearl Street and
Van Woert Street in Albany, Walker intentionally leave three pit bull puppies knowing they were all
Also, between January 24 and
January 26, 2013, Walker allegedly left four pit bull dogs unattended in
a U-Haul trailer for an extended period of time without proper sustenance.
Walker faces up to two years in the Albany
County Correctional Facility if convicted.
He pleaded not guilty and
remains in custody.
Two of the three railroad puppies, as they became known, survived their injuries. After months of recovery, 'Hudson' and his sister 'Pearl' went to their new homes in December. All three puppies had severe injuries to their paws when found by railroad workers. One
puppy had a hole through her paw, another had two digits removed from
her paw and Hudson's rear left paw was completely removed.
The Humane Society believes the dogs found in the U-Haul are the mother, father and siblings of the railroad puppies.
