Three injured, two charged with DWI in Rotterdam collision

Updated:

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. – Police say two people have been charged with Driving While Intoxicated after a two car accident early Sunday morning on Guilderland Avenue.

The Rotterdam Police Department say the accident occurred Guilderland Avenue near the intersection of Draper Avenue at 3:38 a.m. when both vehicles collided sending them off the road. One car struck a church and the other caused damage to a local business and struck a utility pole causing some residents to briefly lose power.

Both drivers were arrested; 21-year-old Lauren Nixon from Schenectady and 21-year-old Justin O'Hare from Guilderland were each charged with DWI. Nixon was also charged with driving with a suspended license.

Both drivers and one passenger were treated for minor injuries at local hospitals. Two were transported to Albany Medical Center and one to Ellis Hospital.

A small power outage was caused by a utility pole being struck, but National Grid responded and power was restored.
