Clifton Park man arrested for double homicide in Philippines

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - New York State Police and the FBI have arrested a Clifton Park man in connection to a double-homicide in the Philippines after an investigation spanning six months.

State Police say 35-year-old Timothy Kaufman, of 8 Greenlea Drive in Clifton Park, was wanted by authorities in the Republic of the Philippines for a double homicide that occurred on September 1, 2011 that involved an ex-British police officer and his girlfriend. Both died from multiple gunshot wounds.

After investigation and with the assistance of the New York State Intelligence Center, Kaufman was arrested on Wednesday in the Saratoga area without incident.

"We knew his whereabouts, it was just confirming the fact he was the person that they wanted," said Captain Timothy Munro of the NYS Police BCI. "You can imagine working with another country in a completely different time zone it's difficult to speak with individuals conducting the investigation."

He was turned over to the FBI and is currently being held by the US Marshall Service awaiting an extradition hearing in Albany.
