SARATOGA LAKE, N.Y. - An estimated 1,200 boats will take over Fish Creek at Saratoga Lake for The Saratoga Rowing Association's 16th annual Saratoga Invitational Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28.
Racing side-by-side, in 7-lane races, the three-day rowing extravaganza has a taken a sharp departure from the four-team regatta it began as 16 years ago. The 2013 competition is by far the largest Saratoga Invitational to date, growing from about 900 entries last year.
Among the estimated 4,000 athletes to attend will be local teams from Saratoga Springs, Shenendehowa, Niskayuna, Shaker, Albany, Burnt Hills, Stillwater, Ballston Spa and Scotia-Glenville. Joining local high schools will be teams from as far as Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
The event is expected to draw about 10,000 spectators over the weekend.
Weigh-in for athletes begins at 12 p.m., with the first heat scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday.
