ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York tax authorities say they've arrested 10 people accused of having untaxed cigarettes and tobacco at "roll-your-own" shops in eastern New York.
The Department of Taxation and Finance says investigators bought pre-rolled cigarettes at 12 shops in the Capital Region and Hudson Valley earlier this year and seized products and cash in subsequent raids.
It says the people whose arrests were announced Thursday are all employees or owners at 10 of the stores and evidence was taken from the other two.
Authorities say cartons that would legally cost as much as $100 for top brands can he sold for as low as $35 at the shops.
The defendants face a mix of misdemeanor and felony charges.
