FORT ANN, N.Y. -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office is reviewing surveillance video to try to determine who might be responsible for destroying a soccer field at Fort Ann Central School.
Fort Ann Central School Superintendent Maureen Vanburen says the fact that anyone would do this makes her angry, but it is especially troubling at a time when the district is pinching pennies and the last thing they need is to have to spend money fixing the soccer field.
"We have to pay a couple thousand dollars just for top soil, but it's the other elements that it will take to repair the fields," Vanburen said. "It's going to take a lot of time and that's time away from what else they could be doing."
The field is still a mess after police say someone drove a pickup truck through the soccer field at the school early Tuesday morning. Police later found the truck, which they say had been stolen, at a campground later that day, but they still have no suspects in the theft of the vehicle.
The damage left behind is estiamted to cost up to $2,000 to repair. Vanburen says it absolutely sickens her that someone would find it entertaining to do this.
She also says they have contacted their insurance agency to see what, if anything, would be covered.
Police do have a number of leads in the case, but if you know anything, you are asked to please call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 747-4623.
