MALTA, N.Y. - New York State Police in Malta say they have arrested a Milton man for numerous crimes including allegedly attempting to set fire to his girlfriend's home then damaging property at a nearby Cumberland Farms.
State Police arrested 30-year-old William Thompson, of 331 Rowland Street, for Attempted Arson 3rd, Burglary 3rd, two counts of Criminal Mischief 2nd, and Menacing.
Thompson is accused of pouring kerosene throughout the inside and outside of his girlfriend's residence with the intent of starting it on fire. Police say he then ripped the toilet out of the bathroom and threw items, including a flat screen TV, around the trailer, destroying them.
Thompson then allegedly left the residence and went to the Cumberland Farms on Geyser Road and destroyed a lighter display and glass door. Police say he then jump over the counter of the store and threatened the clerk.
He was taken into custody by the Ballston Spa Police and turned over to the State Police and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail without bail.
The investigation is ongoing and other charges are pending.
