Siena student done with basketball after burglary accusations

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena College men's basketball player arrested earlier this month is no longer on the team.

21-year-old Rakeem Brookins faces burglary and grand larceny charges after police say he was found with another student's wallet in his possession.

Court documents show Brookins allegedly told an investigator that he was looking to buy marijuana at another on campus apartment when he took the wallet and later used the victim's debit card to buy gas.

Siena College released the following statement to the NEWS CENTER on Tuesday:

"Siena College remains committed to protecting the educational records and privacy rights of all its students. The College will not comment on disciplinary actions taken or sanctions imposed on any of its students. We can confirm that Rakeem Brookins is no longer a member of the basketball team. Any further questions regarding Rakeem's status as a student should be directed to his attorney."
