Dead dog found near NanoCollege campus

ALBANY, N.Y. - Police say a dead dog was found Tuesday just off the University at Albany NanoCollege campus.

UAlbany and Guilderland Police Investigators say the animal had been shot in the head three times, and appears to have been tortured for some time. The dog, described as a mixed breed weighing about 50 pounds, was found in the woods behind the Center for Environmental Sciences and Technology building. Investigators say the dog appeared to have been tied at its hind legs.

The dog was turned over for further investigation.

Authorities are now checking surveillance video, trying to determine when the animal was left in the area. Police do not believe the suspect is a UAlbany student.

If the person responsible is caught they could face a felony charge and two years in prison.
