ALBANY, N.Y. – NEWSCENTER's Drew Brill takes a look at the importance of Patriot's Day and why the Boston Marathon is run on this specific day. The answer is actually very important for Americans.
Most marathons are run on weekends where spectators have off from work and can line the streets to cheer on the runners, but today is Patriots Day in Massachusetts and is a statewide holiday commemorating the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 which was the start of the American Revolutionary War.
The day has great significance to the freedom of everyone in our country and we offer congratulations to all the runners. Our hearts thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who's been affected by the tragic events of the day.
