Sheriff: Foul play not suspected in case of body found in ravine

Pleasantdale, N.Y. – The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office tells the NEWS CENTER that a man's body was found in a wooded area in Pleasantdale Friday night.

According to the sheriff's office, Rensselaer County Deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman who was out looking for a lost dog in a wooded area off of Haughney Road in the town of Schaghticoke, and a white male was found dead at the bottom of a ravine.

"It's very frightening. Our kids were out playing the other day when it was nice out and it's just very quiet here and stuff like this doesn't happen around here," said neighbor Pam Gilligan.

The cause and manner of the death are pending further scientific studies, but officials do not suspect foul play.

The positive identification of the body is pending and may take several days. The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office is not releasing the name until that ID has been made and the family is notified.
