COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - The U.S. Mint is inviting people to take a swing at designing a National Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative coin.
The Mint on Thursday announced in Washington a competition to design the "heads side" of the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins. Federal officials say the design must be emblematic of baseball.
The winner will be awarded $5,000 and their initials will appear on the minted coins. The National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act calls for $5 gold, $1 silver, and half-dollar coins.
The competition runs until May 11 or until 10,000 entries are received. The winning design will be unveiled by mid-September.
Contest guidelines are available on the U.S. Mint website at www.usmint.gov.
