Man charged with breaking into Ballston home

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A Saratoga Springs man has been arrested after the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office says he entered a Ballston home armed with a baseball bat and possibly a gun.

The victim at the home called 911 to report to that 32-year-old Derek Rhodes entered the home and while in the house, officers say he smashed the interior windows and doors as well as other items inside the home.

One of the homeowners was struck with the bat and sustained a minor injury when fleeing the home to hide from Rhodes until Sheriff's deputies arrived.

Prior to police arrival, Rhodes fled the scene and was found a short time later after his vehicle crashed in the area. He has been charged with Burglary first-degree, Criminal Mischief third-degree, Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
