Two dogs seized after attacking, killing small dogs

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Police Department seized two large dogs Tuesday afternoon following an incident in which two smaller dogs were killed on Ludlow Alley.

Police say around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, animal control responded to Ludlow Alley for a report of two vicious dogs. Upon arrival the caller stated that he was walking his two small dogs in the alley, when two larger dogs broke through the rear fence of a home on Clinton Avenue and mauled his dogs.

Both of the victim's dogs were severely injured and died at the scene.

The large dogs - an English Bull Mastiff and a Presa Canario - were seized at the scene and transported to the Hudson River Humane Society pending a ten day quarantine period.

Their owner, 42-year-old James Garland of Albany was cited by the animal control officer for Vicious Dog, Chase and Harass, Dog Running Loose, Unlicensed Dog, No Rabies Vaccination and Fail to Identify Your Dog. He is scheduled to appear in Albany City Civil Court at a later date.
