Columbia County deli raided as part of welfare fraud investigation
HUDSON, N.Y. - As part of an on-going investigation into welfare fraud in Columbia County, a search warrant was executed Tuesday morning at the D&D Deli on 5th Street in the City of Hudson.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says the Welfare Fraud Task Force began the investigation more than a year ago involving illegal use of food stamps at the deli. The search warrant issued by the U.S. District Court was executed by local and federal officials at around 9 a.m.
Officials say the deli may have been purchasing food stamps from customers for reduced price. The
investigation is continuing.
Agencies involved in the investigation and/or
executing the search warrant were; the Columbia County Sheriff's Office,
Columbia County District Attorney's Office, Columbia County Department of
Social Services, Hudson Police Department, NYS Office of Taxation and Finance,
United States Department of Agriculture – Office of the Inspector General, US
Secret Service and US Immigration & Custom Enforcement – Albany offices.
