Man charged with robbery at Elks in Gloversville


GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. - The Gloversville Police Department has arrested a man after he allegedly threatened to kill the bartender at the Sacandaga Elks if he did not give him cash from the register.

Police say 53-year-old Edward Jones, of Johnstown, after the incident which occurred on Sunday morning around 1:30 a.m.

Police Jones waited until all other patrons had left the establishment before striking up a conversation between the bartender and another woman associated with the bartender.

The conversation led to Jones allegedly threatening to kill the bartender and the woman friend if the bartender did not cooperate by opening the cash register and giving him the cash. During the incident, police say Jones took a phone from the female so the police could not be immediately contacted during the incident.

He has been charged with Robbery 3rd and two counts of Grand Larceny and has been held without bail.
