Cuomo says overhaul of NY ethics needed - again

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Days after federal authorities rocked New York politics with more corruption cases, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says solutions abound to fix Albany's history of ethical lapses. But he isn't releasing any specific remedies yet.
Cuomo called Monday for a broad overhaul of the rules for the second time in two years.
But those who have regulated state government say the latest rhetoric follows a pattern where past efforts came up short. The former state ethics and lobbying watchdogs say Albany continues to avoid focusing on the root causes of corruption.
Politicians were arrested last week in bribery scandals that prompted a federal prosecutor to say corruption in the state is "rampant."
Cuomo told public radio's "Capitol Pressroom" he will galvanize public outrage to change ethical standards and election laws.
