WILTON, N.Y. -- A 44-year-old Saratoga Springs man is under arrest after he allegedly robbed a couple at knifepoint behind McDonald's on State Route 50 in the Town of Wilton on Friday.
The New York State Police in Wilton arrested John L. Zippo, 44, of Maple Avenue, Saratoga Springs, for felony 1st-Degree Robbery.
According to police, the victim and his girlfriend met with Zippo to conduct a private sale of electronics, at which time the suspect displayed a knife and demanded the victim's money and cell phone, while threatening to harm the girl.
The suspect fled on foot to a vehicle parked near the Hannaford grocery store. The victim was able to provide a partial registration number and a description of the vehicle. The subsequent investigation led to Zippo's identity, and he was taken into custody upon returning to his residence later in the evening.
A cell phone and several hundred dollars in cash were taken in the robbery. Some of the property was recovered and no one was injured in the incident.
Zippo was arraigned in Wilton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail with no bail.
