Taxi cab driver charged with DWI in Ballston Spa


BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - Police in Ballston Spa arrested a taxi cab driver who they say was caught driving drunk after customers complained he was driving erratically.

The Ballston Spa Police Department has charged 61-year-old Larry Northrop, of Saratoga, with driving while intoxicated around 4 a.m. Sunday. Police say Northrop was driving into the Village of Ballston Spa into Saratoga Springs on Route 50 when two passengers inside the cab contacted the taxi company stating the driver was swerving all over the road.

The passengers asked the Northrop to stop the cab, which he did not, and the taxi company contacted police. Ballston Spa police located the cab, observing the taxi speeding and failing to use the proper lane. Northrop was stop on Doubleday Avenue in Ballston Spa and arrested for DWI and operating the taxi on a suspended license.

He was additionally charged with DWAI, Driving while ability impaired by the combination of drugs and alcohol, Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and failing to use designated lane.
