TROY, NY – Police responded to a large gathering of teenagers and young adults last night after a group of approximately 200 left a Sweet 16 party at Germania Hall.
Police report that the groups formed "rival" pods and headed south to the downtown area. A car window was smashed in an act of vandalism associated with the crowd's demeanor in the area of 108th Street and Fifth Avenue. Patrols closely monitored the pedestrian activity of the groups from the party site as they headed south.
Unruly behavior escalated as the groups reached the bus stop area on New Third Street at Fulton Street. Police were concerned after hearing chants of "Troy vs. Albany." Troy Police requested standby patrols from the New York State Police and Rennselaer County Sheriff's Department.
At one point, a disturbance broke out in the alley area between Broadway and State, and 2nd and 3rd.
Four arrests were made, one juvenile and three people 16 or older. The arrests were all consistent with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
One subject was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, after an airsoft pistol with no safety markings was recovered.
