Eighth gun buyback held in Schenectady County

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Schenectady County Sheriff's Office conducted its eighth Gun Buy Back event on Saturday.

As part of a monthly program, county residents can trade in handguns for a $200 gift card or assault weapons for a $250 gift card.

The following guns were collected at the event:

  • 16 handguns
  • 3 pellet handguns
  • 1 pellet rifle
  • 1 shotgun
  • 1 sawed off shotgun

During previous events, the program has accumulated 53 handguns, 56 rifles/shotguns, and 35 non-working guns.

The funds for the buyback come from the department's Asset Forfeiture Fund along with the Schenectady County D.A.'s office, Schenectady Police Department, Golub/Price Chopper, Stewarts Shops, and other organizations.
