Troy, N.Y. - The News Center has new information about the four-year-old girl who was critically injured when she was hit by a car yesterday.
The News Center spoke with family members Thursday who say they have been at Albany Medical Center since 19-year-old Sarah Bingham and her 4-year-old daughter were hit by an SUV in Troy Wednesday. It's been a very emotional and trying time for the family.
Bingham is in fair condition, but her daughter has some very serious injuries and remains in the pediatric intensive care unit.
One family member says the little girl has a spinal cord injury and had surgery Thursday. Family members were patiently waiting for her to come out of that surgery. The family declined to speak on camera at the advice of their lawyer.
Charles Heran with Martin, Harding & Mazotti is representing the family. Heran would not comment on any legal matters that could come out of this accident.
Troy Police Captain John Cooney says charges are not expected at this time for the driver of the SUV that hit Bingham and her daughter.
Captain Cooney says the light at the intersection was green for the driver, according to witness statements. Cooney says that Friday morning Troy detectives will be at the accident scene at 7:40 am, around the time it happened to investigate another possible cause of this tragedy. Troy police say sunlight could have played a role in visibility. The investigation is ongoing.
